interview discussion with (Jeanna)
Aziz: Hello Jeanna, how are you doing today?
Jeanna: I am well! It is cold outside but it's okay. How are you?
Aziz: I am very well, thank you for meeting with me today. Could you please introduce yourself?
Jeanna: My name is Jeanna Becker and I attend at St.Cloud State Univeristy. I have my business degree and I am now studying to be an RN (registered nurse). I plan to graduate in 2 years and get a job at the St.Cloud Hospital.
Aziz: Today I have a couple questions, is it okay if I begin?
Jeanna: Of course, yes
Aziz: Do you like St.Cloud weather?
Jeanna:No I don’t.
Aziz: Why?
Jeanna: I have lived in St.Cloud my whole life so I am very used to it. However that does not mean I like it, I would rather live somewhere warmer. The snow is very pretty during the winter but it is too cold.
Aziz: So since you don’t like the weather what do you like to do on your free time?
Jeanna: During my free time when I am not at school and I am not working I like to be at home. I live with my best friend from the 3rd grade so we like to watch movies and I also have a dog so I like to spend time with him.
Aziz: What kind of movies do you and your roommate like to watch?
Jeanna: We usually watch Netflix and get hooked on new tv shows. When we are done with one show we move to the next.
Aziz: On your free time do you ever go and visit your family?
Jeanna: I try and visit my family once a week. Usually my brother and I go every Sunday to have dinner and socialize a bit.
Aziz: Do you just have one brother?
Jeanna: No I have 2 older brothers but one of them lives in Arizona because he is in the Marines.
Aziz: Do you talk to your brother in Arizona a lot?
Jeanna: I try and talk with him but he is really busy sometimes.
Aziz: How do you usually communicate with him?
Jeanna: We text more than anything, however sometimes we talk on facebook or even through snapchat.
Aziz: What is the biggest holiday in your country?
Jeanna: Christmas and Thanksgiving are the biggest.
Aziz: What do you like to do during Christmas?
Jeanna: Every year all my family meet at my Grandmas house and we have a big dinner and usually watch movies and talk with eachother.
Aziz: What do you do during Thanksgiving
Jeanna: We do the same thing however Christmas my family eats Ham and during Thanksgiving we eat a turkey.
Aziz: Do you find it difficult to practice your religion in the United States?
Jeanna: I don’t think it's difficult however a lot of people do not attend church because their lives are so busy. I think a lot of people like to find their own time when they are at home.
Aziz: Can you tell me some important things about your culture?
Jeanna: I think that our culture has a set plan for everyone in order to succeed. What I mean is you are expected to graduate high school and go to college in order to get a good job and make money. Money is a big part of our society.
Aziz: What are your goals for the future?
Jeanna: My plan is to graduate college with my nursing degree and to get a job as an RN. I want to travel the world and see as much as possible and hopefully get married and have kids some time as well.
Aziz: Is there anywhere specific you would like to travel?
Jeanna: I would like to visit all the main places in the U.S. such as Las Vegas, California, but I also want to go to Dubai, Europe, and Saudi Arabia.
Aziz: so the last questions say what is your favorite dish?
Jeanna: my favorite dish is pizza and I love my mother pizza when she cooked it.
Aziz: what kind of pizza your mother cooked?
Jeanna: my mother cooked pizza mixed with meat and vegetables and special cheese.
Aziz: wow I should try it, I think your mother pizza so delicious.
Jeanna: yah, I will invite you when she cocked.
Aziz: thanks.
Jeanna: your are welcome.
Aziz: Well thank you so much for your time, do you have any questions for me since I have asked so many of you?
Jeanna: What is the difference in the United States and Saudi Arabia between men and women?
Aziz: There are a lot of differences. The women in Saudi Arabia cannot drive, also the women should wear different clothing. Men also can marry more than one wife but the maximum is 4. However the women sometimes should stay at the home without a job which means she should take care of the children.
Jeanna: wow, that’s extremely different between United State and Saudi Arabia.
Aziz: yes it is.
Jeanna: I learn a lot when you answer my questions but, do you think is fair for the man can get marriage from 4 women.
Aziz: well, sometimes is not fair but the reason whay we do that because sometimes the man doesn’t want to broke up and he has kids and he want to live with them. Also, sometimes the man want get children but his wife sterile and he should try from another women in this case.
Jeanna: that’s maybe right.
Aziz: I take too long from your time that’s was all I want and I appreciate that.
Jeanna: I hope that I help you.
Aziz: yes you help a lot and I learn a new things today.
Jeanna: me too, I learn a lot.
Aziz: thank you, have a good day
Jeanna: thanks, you too.
Aziz: thank you, have a good day
